Nature of Work

We provide consulting services in applied mathematics, statistics, operations research, mathematical finance and software development.  We have been addressing significant problems in business, industry, and government since 1963.  We have significant experience in the modeling of complex physical and chemical processes; statistical analyses; and the production of robust yet user-friendly software.

Our biotechnology research and development includes extensive work in algorithm and technology development for both DNA and protein sequencing. Other biotechnology applications include analytical and diagnostic technologies.

Our mathematical finance work includes analysis and software for securities portfolio optimization, risk management, valuation of options and derivatives, and resource allocation optimizations. Much of it is founded on optimization of stochastic models.

We have developed optimization software for use in Coast Guard search operations, inspection of silicon wafers, fertility testing, scheduling physicians in resident training, and statistical quality control in chemical production.

We also developed methods to apply search theory to oil exploration, and assisted a Canadian utility company to assess risk from iceberg damage to submerged power cables.

Our search theory software has been used to find sunken treasures and our control theory to improve gantry crane operation in ship loading. Recent work in signal processing includes development of a system performing speaker verification and speaker-independent speech recognition.

We have gained a world-wide reputation in our operations research work for the Navy in tactical development with emphasis on decision aid software, and in modeling and software for strategic planning. Computer assistance to search operations is prominent, with applications to undersea and surface warfare, space surveillance, rescue, and lost object recovery. We provided on-scene analysis for the following:

Our staff has an excellent record of publications in professional journals, patents, and national honors.

Specific Duties

  • Participation in the formulation of mathematical solutions to operational and physical problems, and validation and documentation of both the methods and results
  • Participation in the design, code, test and integration phases of the software and system life cycle
  • Presentations in both oral and written form
