The Prototype JSOW MPM CD

Distribution Issues

Our prototype MPM is a client of FalconView, the GIS server for PFPS. FalconView is provided on the distribution CD with the permission of John Pyles, the lead developer for FalconView at Georgia Tech. This CD is freely distributable within the U.S. government.

Updates

This program is still under development and will continue to be updated. To receive the latest version, contact James Eanes.

Installation

If you experience any problems with the installation or execution of this program, please check the Troubleshooting Guide. If the guide doesn't help you, please send me email with your questions/comments.

  • Place the distribution CD in the CD-ROM.
  • The CD-ROM should automatically load the Install Wizard. If not, click on Start->Run and type g:\setup.exe (replacing "g" with the drive letter of your CD-ROM).
  • The Install Wizard will walk you through the installation of PFPS. First, you will see a window showing the following options: Install, Requirements, View Our Website, and Contact Us. Click on Install to begin the PFPS installation.
  • The next window will display the options PFPS and PFPS Accessories. Since you can't install the accessories without first installing PFPS, click on PFPS.
  • You will then see the Welcome Screen giving you some information about PFPS. Click Next.
  • The next window will warn you about having other programs running while installing PFPS. If you have other programs open, you should close them. Then click Next.
  • The Install Wizard will then request a drive to receive the installation. If you don't like the default drive shown, click Change Drive to choose another one. When done, click Next.
  • The next window will show you the options for installation. We only need FalconView for the demo, but you can install as much of the rest of the program as you like (and have space for on your disk). We suggest you click on Custom Install to choose only FalconView.
  • In the Custom Installation window, you will see a list of components, some checked and some not. We suggest you leave only FalconView checked, so uncheck CFPS, Release Notes, FPM Data, Full DAFIF DB, Full Aimpoints DB, and SLM. Once you have unchecked those components you don't want to install, click Next.
  • The Install Wizard will show you the Current Settings based on your entries so far. Click Next.
  • The PFPS installation will begin. After a few minutes, a window will appear telling you that the Setup is Complete. In this window, make sure the box is checked next to View Readme File Now. Click Finish.
  • The Readme fill will appear for you to read. When done reading, click on File->Exit or on the X in the upper right corner of the editor window.
  • The Install Wizard will return to allow you to install PFPS Accessories. Since these are not needed for this demo, click Exit in the upper right corner. This completes the PFPS installation.
  • Before installing the JSOW Demo, start FalconView by clicking on its name in the Start Menu (Start->Programs->Pfps->FalconView). We're not concerned with the dates on the charts for this demo, so ignore the warning about "out-of-date CADRG charts" and click OK. Also, we're not using the RouteServer for this demo (we do our own route editing), so ignore the warning that "You will not be able to create, connect to, or edit routes" and click OK. FalconView should start, displaying a "Tip of the Day" and then showing a view of the Earth. Once you've started FalconView for the first time, you no longer need to start it manually; the MPM will start it.
  • Using Windows NT Explorer or My Computer, view the contents of the CD-ROM.
  • Double-click on the file Demo_Install.exe. This will start the WinZip extractor.
  • The extractor will ask you where to put the demo files. If you don't like the default directory shown, you can change it by typing a new directory into the box. Click Unzip. The extractor will begin placing the demo files in the chosen direct
  • When the extractor is done, it will tell you how many files were successfully unzipped. Click OK and then click Close in the extractor window.
  • Using Windows NT Explorer or My Computer, view the contents of the installation directory (the directory you chose in step 3).
  • Double-click on the file demo.exe. This will start the Wagner Prototype JSOW MPM.
  • This User Manual is located in the installation directory in HTML format. Double-clicking on the file jsow.htm in the User Manual directory will bring up the first page of the manual in your default web browser. If your web browser does not start up, you can start it manually (by clicking on its icon or its name in the Start menu) and open the file jsow.htm using File->Open.
