METPLAN Environmental Data Access for Mission Planning

This program demonstrates the functionality required for environmentally-intelligent JSOW mission planning. Wagner Associates has worked closely with JSOW mission planners and METOC personnel to determine tactical displays and data management required to meet mission planners' needs with current and developing METOC capabilities.

The purpose of developing the prototype Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) Mission Planning Module (MPM) was to demonstrate a tool for retrieving and managing environmental data. We call this tool METPLAN because its functionality is similar to that of METCAST, but to the mission planner instead of the METOC officer.

The METOC data retrieved by METPLAN is from the Coupled Oceanographic and Atmospheric Mesoscale Prediction System (COAMPS). METPLAN retrieves real-time COAMPS forecasts through an interface with the Tactical Environmental Data Server (TEDS) located at the Naval Research Laboratory in Monterey, CA.

METCAST is intended to be easily interfaced with any mission planner, automatically providing the right METOC data at the right time, in the right format.

JSOW Prototype MPM

The following pages provide documentation for the prototype Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) Mission Planning Module (MPM).  The prototype is the product of an SBIR contract with NAVAIR to improve JSOW mission planning with the inclusion of Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) data.

If you have a question or suggestion regarding the documentation or would like to request a CD containing the MPM, contact James Eanes of Daniel H. Wagner Associates.  We have developed this program with suggestions from mission planners and METOC personnel, and we would greatly appreciate any input that you might provide.

User Manual

We have developed this manual to be as informative and easy-to-use as possible. To that end, we have provided links to almost everything mentioned in the following pages. However, we suggest following the "Continue" links through the demonstration until the end.
