METOC Data Management Using Metplan

METPLAN is the METOC data management server responsible for gathering and organizing METOC data for our prototype JSOW MPM. We have implemented Metplan as an OLE Automation Server in order to provide a simple and easy-to-use interface to the MPM and other client applications. Any client application can connect to Metplan, register itself, and invoke the above Preferences screen to allow the end-user to configure Metplan's data management tasks. Metplan connects directly to the Tactical Environmental Data Server (TEDS) at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) to retrieve METOC data to be incorporated into the MPM.

It is our vision that Metplan will be a Defense Information Infrastructure Common Operating Environment (DIICOE) segment on the Global Command and Control System (GCCS). As a segment, Metplan would act as an intelligent agent to provide METOC data to mission planning segments in the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS), as well as other segments that require environmental data.

You can reach the above Preferences screen from the main menubar by clicking on File->Metplan Preferences. On this screen, you have the ability to configure Metplan to retrieve the data you need when you need it and to put it where you want it.
