Popup Menu

The Popup Menu provides point forecast data and graphical waypoint editing. Clicking the left mouse button on FalconView pops up this menu, and clicking on the Exit menu option closes it.

  • Altitude
If you brought up the Popup Menu by clicking on the route, this menu option will show the missile's altitude at the given point. If you clicked anywhere else on the map, this option will be grayed out. In the example above, the altitude at the dispense point is shown.
  • Visibility
Visibility is provided in nautical miles (NM).
  • Icing
We are using NRL's icing algorithm to determine probability of icing at a given point. The number 0.99 implies type 1 icing, and the number 1.99 implies type 2 icing. We are working on a better way to represent this to the mission planner.
  • Turbulence
This parameter is currently not available from COAMPS. We are working on acquiring an algorithm for deriving this parameter.
  • Surface Winds
This menu option shows the surface wind speed (Knots) and direction (true degrees) at the clicked point. Surface is defined as target altitude.
  • Winds Aloft
This menu option expands into a submenu that provides a profile of the winds aloft at the clicked point. All levels for which data is available are shown in this submenu. Each submenu option shows the altitude of the data, the wind speed in Knots, and the wind direction in true degrees.
  • Insert Point
This option is only active if you clicked on the route between waypoints. Clicking on this option causes the MPM to go into "rubber banding" mode. In this mode, the cursor becomes a new waypoint to be inserted into the route. Moving the mouse creates "rubber bands" between the new point and its neighbor points to allow you to see the new point's relationship with the other points in the route. In the image below, the white lines are the rubber bands connecting the potential waypoint with the existing release point and waypoint. Clicking the mouse again will submit a new waypoint to the MPM (just like adding a waypoint in the Route Editor). If the new waypoint is acceptable (it's not too close to the target or the release point or another waypoint, etc.), then it will be added to the route. If the new waypoint is not acceptable, the MPM will refuse to insert it, and it will tell you why it refused.

  • Add Point
Clicking on this option submits a new waypoint to the MPM at the lat/lon of the click that brought up the menu. The waypoint is submitted as the last waypoint before the target. This is the same result as clicking the Add button in the Route Editor. If the new waypoint is acceptable (it's not too close to the target or the release point or another waypoint, etc.), then it will be added to the route. If the new waypoint is not acceptable, the MPM will refuse to add it, and it will tell you why it refused.
  • Move Point
This option is only active if you clicked on a waypoint. Clicking on this option causes the MPM to go into "rubber banding" mode. In this mode, the cursor becomes the waypoint you're moving. Moving the mouse creates "rubber bands" between the moving point and its neighbor points to allow you to see the point's relationship with the other points as it's moved within the route. The example in the Insert Point section above shows the "rubber bands." Clicking the mouse again will submit the new waypoint position to the MPM (just like editing a waypoint in the Route Editor). If the new waypoint position is acceptable (it's not too close to the target or the release point or another waypoint, etc.), then the waypoint will be moved. If the new waypoint position is not acceptable, the MPM will refuse to move it, and it will tell you why it refused.
  • Edit Point
This option is only active if you clicked on a waypoint. Clicking on this option pops up the Waypoint Editor for changing the lat/lon and altitude of the given waypoint.
  • Delete Point
This option is only active if you clicked on a waypoint. Clicking on this option will delete the given waypoint from the route. The release point and target cannot be deleted, only moved and edited.
  • Exit
This option closes the Popup Menu.
