METOC Products

Mission planners have told us that they don't want to have METOC products clutter up their mission plans (i.e. too many images overlayed on FalconView at different granularities and opacities, etc.). But they have also told us that they want to see METOC products for the region of the mission, so that they can get a feel for the general weather in the area. To provide planners with what they need, we are providing three types of product displays: independent display windows showing METOC products, with the mission plan overlayed; toggleable overlays on FalconView; and toggleable overlays on the vertical profile. We have completed work on the independent display windows, and we are currently working on the toggleable overlays on FalconView and the vertical profile.

The Main Menu (shown to the right) provides access to METOC products through the Weather->View Products menu item and the product icons on the Toolbar. The icons shown represent the METOC parameters most useful to a JSOW mission planner. When you click on the menu or a button, you will see a list of available products. Choose one of more of these products to display, and a separate window will pop up for each product, with the current mission plan overlayed.

The picture below shows one example of this type of display. This product shows COAMPS forecast winds at about 30,000 FT, with the JSOW route and current area of interest overlayed. We are currently working on creating products with mission-oriented color schemes (e.g. red/yellow/green, based on missile tolerances).
